I started my career in branding, spending a decade working with giants like Unilever, Sports Interactive, and Airbus. But my real education came from an unlikely place: trying (and failing) to explain brand strategy through rap on LinkedIn. My cousin asked if I'd been hacked.
Then something clicked. I stopped trying to be like everyone else and started sharing what I actually thought about branding. One viral post about Monzo's "hot coral" card later, and suddenly I was fielding requests for brand strategy work.
The interesting part? The founders I worked with kept asking about my LinkedIn presence. Not just "does it work?" but "can you do this for me?" It led to two realisations:
Traditional branding principles could transform personal branding (and I'd be much better at this than trying to be a designer)
Marketing agencies, ironically, struggle most with marketing themselves
Now I help agency founders find their voice online. Not through templates or algorithms, but by uncovering what makes them genuinely interesting. Because I've learned something valuable: everyone has something worth saying. They just need help figuring out how to say it.
